For many Americans, Mexico has always been a perfect vacation destination. With cheap prices, a tropical climate, and a very tourist-friendly atmosphere, the world South of the Border is appealing for travel any time of the year. However, while there are many hotspots in Mexico, one of the most popular is Playa del Carmen on the Caribbean side of the country.
Located at the tip of the Yucatán Peninsula, Playa del Carmen and the entire area of Quintana Roo have become a tourist paradise. Resorts and hotels have been popping up in recent years, offering crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches, and tons of local culture.
However, the magic is just offshore on the island of Cozumel. This island has been central to tourism in the region since the swinging 50s and 60s, but the last few decades have seen a transformation, with many top-tier resorts staking their claim to the most pristine sections of the island.
In 2026, Royal Caribbean will add itself to the list of resorts with the Royal Beach Club Cozumel. Although the grand opening is still two years away, there’s a lot to look forward to. Even with a bevy of resorts on the island, this beach club will become a prime destination. Plus, cruise passengers will love the ability to stay close to shore while getting a taste of tropical island life.
While you can’t book a room yet, here’s everything we know about this beach club and what you can expect.
The Lowdown on Royal Beach Club Cozumel
- Where: The western side of Cozumel, known for its white sandy beaches and bright blue waters.
- When: Sometime in 2026
- Who: Royal Caribbean, the largest cruise company in the world. The brand has another Royal Beach Club in the Bahamas (opening 2025), although this one promises to be bigger and better with a decidedly Mexican flair.
Amenities
Royal Caribbean is well-known for providing world-class amenities on all of its cruises and resorts. However, both new Royal Beach Clubs promise to add a bit of class and elegance to the experience. While Perfect Day on Coco Cay is designed to be exciting and family-friendly, the Royal Beach Club is more for rest, relaxation, and vacation vibes.
Although details are scant at the moment, we do know the resort will feature swim-up bars, private cabanas, and relaxation pools. Individuals, couples, and families can all soak up the sun during their stay, either on the beach or poolside.
Dining
As with most resorts, the Royal Beach Club will feature multiple dining options, including cafes and fine-dining restaurants. The number of eateries has yet to be determined, but this particular club will come with something unique: a street market.
The street market is designed to bring the flavors and culture of Mexico to the island. This way, guests don’t have to venture into Playa del Carmen or other cities to enjoy the atmosphere. Instead, they can sample street food, tequila, and more. Additionally, the market will feature tequila tastings and cooking classes for adventurous guests who want to expand their culinary expertise.
Attractions
Because Cozumel is an island, the Royal Beach Club will have all the standard island activities and attractions available. Those who love the water can go snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding. There will likely be dance parties and live music to add some fun and energy to the resort, especially for adults-only sections.
However, even if the resort doesn’t offer many attractions, the island has plenty of options. One of the best examples is the Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park, which is also on the western side. At the park, guests can see wildlife, including up-close encounters with sea lions, dolphins, and manatees. Snorkeling is also more fun at the park because you can get up close and personal with sunken statues.
As construction and development progress on this project, we’ll keep you updated. This is an exciting project, and we’ll be first in line when tickets to the Royal Beach Club become available.
