The premise of “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge” is simple but equally inspiring and challenging, appealing to guests of all ages regardless of gaming experience. As part of Team Mario, guests will steer through underwater courses and courses in the clouds to compete for the Golden Cup while collecting coins to defeat Team Bowser and win. “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge” raises the stakes for guests as an intriguing and repeatable ride with a variety of outcomes.

This ride employs safety restraints which may restrict certain guests from riding due to body shape and size. Guests whose waist line is at least 40” or greater may not be accommodated on the ride and are strongly encouraged to try the test seat provided at the entrance of the attraction to ensure their ability to ride.

Mario Kart™: Bowser’s Challenge™ is the first of its kind interactive ride based on the successful MARIO KART™ video game series. It seamlessly integrates cutting-edge augmented reality technology, with projection mapping technology, and actual set pieces along a moving ride track.
Guests will wear head mounted augmented reality (AR) goggles which will allow them to experience the full complexity of the ride through its combination of augmented reality, projection mapping technology, as well as actual set pieces along a moving ride track.
Mario Kart™: Bowser’s Challenge here at Universal Studios Hollywood will offer guests a very similar experience to Universal Studios Japan’s Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge.
After walking through Bowser’s Castle™, guests will travel on their Kart vehicles along recreated iconic environments from the Mario Kart™ video games and steer through underwater courses and courses in the clouds to compete for the Golden Cup while collecting coins to defeat Team Bowser.
Set against a multi-sensory backdrop of color, sound and movement, guests will be seated in stadium-style, four-seat vehicles as they navigate familiar courses through the creative use and integration of head mounted AR goggles. This unique feature is a key point of differentiation that distinguishes this ride from other theme park attractions.
Mario Kart™: Bowser’s Challenge™ is not a roller coaster and does not go upside down. It is an innovative highly immersive attraction that seamlessly fuses augmented reality, projection mapping technology, as well as actual set pieces along a moving ride track.

Child Switch is available at Mario Kart™: Bowser's Challenge. Guests must wait in line with their whole party and request it upon their arrival at the loading platform. The Team Member will then direct the Guest to the exit where they may request their Child Switch pass, which is good for 2 guests.
With the Power-Up Band™, guests can keep their score throughout the land as they take on Key Challenges, collect digital coins, and more.
Guests can level up their experience in SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™ with an interactive Power-Up Band™! They can use it to collect digital coins and gather keys throughout the land to unlock a special battle against Bowser Jr. They can track their score against other teams on the app and celebrate with Mario and friends with an enhanced experience!.

Using the Power-Up Band™
Guests will also have the option of syncing their Power-Up Band with the official Universal Studios Hollywood app. Syncing to the Official Universal Studios Hollywood app will allow guests to view their score and more from their mobile device, as well as set-up a personalized profile. A Universal Studios Hollywood guest account is not needed to enjoy all features of the Power-Up Band. However, if guests choose to link their Power-Up Band to their account, gameplay scores will be saved with their account as well as with the Power-Up Band itself.
Additionally, guests can tap their Power-Up Band on the steering wheel when riding Mario Kart™: Bowser’s Challenge or with an attendant when interacting with Mario, Luigi or Princess Peach in the land. The Power-Up Band™ enables fun features, so guests can make the most out of their adventures in the world of Super Mario™.

The Power-Up Bands™ are water/sweat resitant, but not waterproof
Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Toad, and Princess Daisy designs will be available for the Power-Up Bands.
All Power-Up Bands give guests the same benefits, however, the design they choose does determine the ‘team’ they are part of when competing in the land (e.g. Team Luigi).
Guests will be able to use the band every time they visit SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™ and keep track of their scores via the SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™ checkpoint screen found in the land or by linking their Power-Up Band™ with the official Universal Studios Hollywood app.
The Power-Up Band™ is designed for use within SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™. It cannot be used in other areas of the park.
Power-Up Band™ from Universal Studios Japan will also work at Universal Studios Hollywood and vice versa. Guests will need to sync the band to the official Universal Studios Hollywood app.
The Power-Up Band™ does function as an amiibo™ and is only currently compatible with the Nintendo Switch™. For more information on amiibo functionality, guests can visit amiibo.com.
Are Power-Up Bands™ Required?
A Power-Up Band™ is not required to enjoy the land and many of the interactive features it offers. However, purchase of a Power-Up Band is needed to collect digital keys in the Key Challenges and to participate in the Bowser Jr. Shadow Showdown.
Without a Power-Up Band™, guests will still be able to enjoy many of the interactive features, but they will not be able to collect any digital coins, keys, or stamps.
Keeping Score
Guests can keep track of their score via the SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™ checkpoint screen found in the land or by linking their Power-Up Band™ with the official Universal Studios Hollywood app.
Key Challenges
Key Challenges are interactive games throughout SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™ where guests with Power-Up Bands™ may play to collect at least 3 keys, to retrieve the Golden Mushroom stolen by Bowser Jr. After collecting the three keys, guests can unlock and enter the final boss battle, Bowser Jr. Shadow Showdown, to win back the Golden Mushroom.
Lost or Broken Power-Up Band™
Guest that either lost or broke their Power-Up Band™ must purchase a new replacement band from one of the retail locations that sells them.
Progress for Power-Up Bands is linked to the individual bands themselves. The band can be linked to/viewed from multiple different accounts, but the stamps/coins/etc. will stay consistent to the band.
At this time, Guests will not be able to transfer their progress or username from one Band to another.
Meet Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad at SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™.
Guests can say hello to Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad at SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™! They can snap a picture to capture the moment with them and if they wear a Power-Up Band™ they may get an enhanced experience.

Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad will be available for meet and greets in the land throughout the day.
Guests will be able to purchase photos taken at meet & greets to take home as a souvenir. Guests can head over to Hollywood Photoland in the Upper Lot to view and purchase their photos.
Guests will find the perfect souvenir at the 1-UP Factory store. This super-fun store is where they can find all sorts of items from the Mushroom Kingdom and browse souvenirs and wearable merch to level up their experience at SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™.
